How will our new government deal with China?

In a debate on CTV during the election campaign (in between Liberal ads attacking our largest trading partner), Belinda Stronach told Mike Duffy that the Conservatives would be detrimental to our trade relationships, because of their MPs' insistence on mentioning human rights abuses in China. Ms. Stronach, former minister responsible for democratic renewal, stated that Jason Kenney and other Conservatives were "stuck in the 1950s" because they continue to call the communist country "Red China".

Perhaps Belinda hasn't come across any news stories on China from the past fifty years. In December, 2005 (one week before mute Canadians officials attended the WTO meetings in Hong Kong), an unconfirmed number of villagers were killedby Chinese government officials while protesting the repossession of their land. Publishing any information on this atrocity, or the 1989 massacre in Tiananmen Square, can get a citizen jailed for a decade.

Under the Liberals, we have given more than $1 billion to China over the past ten years (Refusing to fund oppressive regimes? That is so 1950). While on the opposition benches, the Conservatives continually called for an end to the $65.4 million that is taken from our paycheques and given to China every year. The Conservatives also spoke out in regards to reports of Chinese spies in this country. Hopefully they will follow through, as China has a huge military, a space program and does not need, or deserve, our hard-earned money.

Belinda probably thinks that because the Chinese government believes in abortion even more passionately than Canada, that they're now "the good guys".

The Chinese government isn't pro-choice, as many women there are forced to get an abortion due to population laws.

And they are brutally repressive to Christians as well.
